What is your business focus for the new year?

My business theme for 2022.

As some of you know, I am a member of a networking group of business consultants called The Upside.

Each quarter there is a Member Spotlight Campaign that The Upside team dreams up - with questions to answer and a lovely graphic. For Q4, it was “My Year of <insert theme>.”

The theme that hit home for me was “discovery.” Everything about the word resonated.

Know this… I didn’t enter 2022 thinking of it as My Year of Discovery.

It was only by looking back at the last 12 months with the help of this prompt, that I realized this is exactly what it’s been.

_____

Some of the discoveries I made along the way.

– I was starved for community and meaningful interaction with intelligent, funny, engaging women.

– Finding this has been one of my highlights of the year.

– I could trust what I was naturally drawn to do and what was EASY - this was a revelation.

– Case in point: I loved hosting my Instagram Live Series for female entrepreneurs: CANDID CONVERSATIONS to Level Up Your Business.

Was I nervous at the start? Absolutely. But as I did more of them, I noticed that I looked forward to them AND they were informative and fun. AND my guests told me they found them fun as well (even those doing their first IG Live).

– By asking for what I needed, there was a better chance that I would actually get it (shocking, I know :).

And as much as I tell my clients this, I frequently need to remind myself: “If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.”

– While I can be incredibly courageous in some areas of my life, I realized that fear was still “in the driver’s seat” much too often.

This year has been about changing that – putting fear in the backseat and giving it something else to do (like watch a movie).

– With fear driving the car, I was too focused on what could go wrong, rather than what could go right, too focused on the past to envision a different future.

– Knowing this, that I need to make 2023 be about vision and dreaming big.
