"Is that helpful?" The question every female business owner should ask.
As a female entrepreneur, you need to make your mind work for you.
When a negative thought arises in your mind, here is the question you should ask yourself:
“Is that helpful?”
It is such a simple question. But one that is powerful.
It’s powerful because it is premised on the idea that you do not need to believe everything that you think.
This truth was told to me several (read, too many) years ago and when I first heard it, I did a literal double-take. The concept was so utterly foreign to me.
What do you mean I don’t have to believe everything I think? And then the follow on to that, you mean some of what I’m thinking is not true? 😳
And then I chewed on these ideas. I dabbled in them.
And I started meditating in earnest. That brought much greater awareness of my thinking while “seated” and then in the everyday. But still, I believed much of what was popping up in my head.
Now, if you’ve reached the point where, like me, you are aware of at least some of the thoughts arising in your mind…
And you’ve begun to notice that there are a good chunk of them that really don’t make you feel very good.
And worse, put you into a spiral of negative thinking (and likely negative action), then this question is well, helpful.
It’s power lies in the following:
⚡ It interrupts the pattern.
⚡ It gives you a choice of whether to think the thought or dismiss it.
⚡ It slowly (very slowly) begins to change your habitual thinking.
And the result of a change in your habitual thinking is eventually a change in your life.
I am not minimizing the effort it takes to do this (as I know from experience).
Nor am I overestimating the potential impact on your life and business.
Suggestion: perhaps you can create your own “sticky note” with this question and post it in a prominent position where you can’t miss it (so it “sticks”). And perhaps you can report back once you do. ✨
