You need to believe in yourself (no matter what anyone else says)

As a business owner, you need to leverage the power of self-belief. It’s real and it matters.

_____

An example from the sports world.

If you watched the Super Bowl a couple of weeks ago, you were not alone.

It was the most-watched event in US television history with over 123 million people tuning in worldwide.

And if you were one of them, perhaps you read or heard the backstory of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Brock Purdy.

I had missed it until I was speaking with my BFF the day before and she happened to mention his story in passing.

Which sent me to Google to dig it up.

_____

Nothing special.

Let’s start with the most notable (and most publicized) fact about Brock Purdy’s NFL career.

In the 2022 NFL draft, a mere 2 years ago, he was picked dead last.

That made him the 262nd draft pick. And it earned him the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant.”

But that’s not where the underestimating of Purdy began. That goes all the way back to his senior year of high school.

Back then the “respected evaluators at ESPN” ranked him 39th of that year’s quarterback pocket passers (more on the rest of that crew in a moment).

This did not bode well for Purdy being recruited to a top-tier college. But he did land at Iowa State where the coach gave him a chance in the respected Big 12 Conference.

And when he was recruited last to San Francisco where most assumed he’d never see game time? The two starting quarterbacks were both sidelined with injuries.

And 22-year-old Brock Purdy was ready. He stepped up and confidently took his shot.

And he was able to do that because…

_____

Brock Purdy had told himself a different story.

He believed in his potential. He didn’t buy into the story told by the “experts” or that implied in his 2022 NFL draft result.

“Purdy insists that his long, under-the-radar path has been a blessing in disguise.

‘It’s been the story of my life, being overlooked in high school, I wasn’t a high recruit,’ Purdy told reporters Thursday. ‘All I needed was a shot and an opportunity, and coach [Matt] Campbell gave it to me at Iowa State and sure enough life is repeating itself. I was drafted last, went to the Niners and got an opportunity.’”

Think about it.

How many people do you know who could maintain that level of self-belief and determination when they’ve been told they’re nothing special; they likely won’t make the big leagues?

Who could shut out the noise of what was being said about them and just focus on their game?

Back to the other 38 high school quarterbacks ESPN ranked ahead of Brock Purdy…

Only 3 play in the NFL. The rest were cheering him on on February 11th as wealth managers, marketers, salespeople…you get the idea.

_____

If he can do it, why not you?

The truth is, nobody knows… what anyone, including you, is capable of.

Nobody knows your story.

You’re the one who gets to write it.

What makes you, you? >>

It’s about confidence (again) >>
